What is the e8?

Created in the wake of the 1992 Rio Summit, the e8 is a non-profit international organization, composed of 10 leading electricity companies from the G8 countries, which promotes sustainable energy development through electricity sector projects and  human capacity building activities in developing nations worldwide.

Projects

Implementing sustainable energy development within the international framework on climate change, the e8, in partnership with UN experts and local partners,  develops renewable energy projects and human capacity building activities across regions, contributing to bringing energy to some of the two billion people around the world still without access to this essential resource while mitigating the effects of green house gas emissions on climate.

The e8 Chairmen met in La Malbaie, Canada,  on June 4, 2008, to discuss the technological challenges and solutions facing the international electricity sector in addressing the global issue of climate change.

Duke Energy (USA) and JSC "RusHydro" (Russia) officially join the e8 at the e8 La Malbaie Summit. JSC "RusHydro" will be the successor of RAO UES of Russia within the e8, following the reform of the Russian energy sector.
